Jan Smith has been upped to the newly created post of executive veep of Disney Interactive.

Smith will be responsible for all worldwide operations, including product development, marketing, finance and administration, business and legal affairs, as well as customer support.

She reports to chairman Bo Boyd and Anne Osberg, prexy of Disney Consumer Products Worldwide.

“Under Jan’s leadership, Disney Interactive has seen a remarkable turnaround and has become a leader in this important industry,” Boyd said. “This promotion recognizes Jan’s significant accomplishments.”

Prior to joining Disney Interactive, Smith was veep and group publisher of Disney Publishing for Children. She joined Disney in 1987 to help launch the Disney Store. She has also served as veep, licensed publishing and creative development for Disney Consumer Products.

Disney Interactive, which only a few years ago was struggling after the CD-ROM market collapsed for console-based vidgames, develops, markets and distributes interactive family oriented games and CD-ROMs based on the company’s pic franchises.

The division has just released CD-ROM “Disney’s Magic Artist Studio” and is readying to release PC game “Villains Revenge.”
