Zomba taps Thea sr. veep

Exec to o'see domestic music ops

Peter Thea has been tapped senior veep of the domestic record label operation for the Zomba Group.

In the new post, Thea will have broad executive duties associated with the running of the Jive, Silverstone and Verity record labels, and others, as well as oversee their A&R action.

Thea joins Zomba from his post as managing partner in the Gotham-based entertainment law boutique Tavel, Thea & Baker. The firm’s clients included artists such as Teddy Riley and Blackstreet.

Thea’s resume also boasts 10 years of recording engineer experience with acts including Aerosmith, Billy Idol and the Grateful Dead.

“Peter brings a unique combination of skills to the job,” said Jive prexy Barry Weiss, who said the move ‘is another step forward to meet the challenges of the fantastic growth we are experiencing.”

The label is currently red hot with acts like the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears topping the sales charts and leading the industry’s pop music charge.
