Frank Berners, deputy program director at commercial web RTL, is rumored to be in line as the next program director.

The 35-year-old Berner would step into the position vacated by Marc Conrad, who left RTL last year to establish his own TV production company.

RTL managing director Gerhard Zeiler has been handling programming duty since Conrad’s departure, but looks set to turn the job over to someone else.

UNITED KINGDOM

Unapix Entertainment has picked up U.S. rights to “Lighthouse,” a Brit suspense thriller written and directed by first-timer Simon Hunter.

The low-budget pic stars James Purefoy (“Bedrooms and Hallways”) and Rachel Shelley.

Unapix struck the deal with Winchester Entertainment, which co-financed the pic along with British Screen and the Arts Council of England.

GlobeCast will install decoders at 900 TV stations in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean to ready for a Feb. 1 launch of digital transmission of syndicated programming.

The Miami-based broadcast services unit of France Telecom is in talks with a number of syndicators to join the digital platform. It already provides U.S. transmission services to clients like King World Prods. and Paramount.
