Warner Bros. Intl. Television Distribution has upped Jose Abad to managing director for Spain and Portugal.
Abad will steer all licensing of the company’s TV series and films to Spanish and Portuguese broadcast, cable, pay and satellite outlets.
Reporting to Warner Bros. senior VP of international sales Josh Berger and Turner Broadcasting System Europe prexy Nan Richards, Abad will also oversee the distribution, affiliate relations and new-business development for CNN, the Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies in Spain and Portugal.
“Having Jose lead the businesses of both Warner Bros. Intl. Television and Turner in Spain will streamline the decision and policy-making process,” said the company’s prexy Jeffrey R. Schlesinger.
Before joining WB in 1996 as a Spanish and Portuguese sales exec, Abad worked at Televisio Valenciana as an acquisition and co-production executive. He later rose to head of program acquisitions at Televisio, a post he held for four years.
