Chris Sloan has been promoted to senior veep of promotions for USA Broadcasting, which is poised to launch its “CityVision” local programming format in four more major TV markets this year.
Sloan has spent the past 18 months spearheading promotion for WAMI-TV, USA’s flagship CityVision outlet in Miami. USA has yet to officially confirm its expansion markets, but the group is understood to be targeting Chicago, Boston, Atlanta and Dallas.
As was the case in Miami, Sloan will be tasked with mounting a major promo blitz in each market to generate interest in the new program lineup coming to stations that now carry USA’s Home Shopping Network feed. Miami’s WAMI was the first of the 11 stations in the USA group to convert to a mix of locally produced, sports and entertainment fare last June.
WAMI’s perf with its original programming over the past year has been mixed, while the station has drawn solid numbers with its sports coverage of the NBA’s Miami Heat and baseball’s Florida Marlins. All told, USA Networks topper Barry Diller has been encouraged enough by WAMI’s progress to greenlight the rollout of CityVision into additional USA markets.
