Three partners have ankled the New York entertainment law firm Frankfurt, Garbus, Klein & Selz, and are taking with them such clients as Jim Sheridan, Ang Lee and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Ira Schreck, Nancy Rose and Joe Dapello are forming a new boutique law firm based in New York that will represent writers, producers, directors and actors in film, television and theater.
Both sides characterized the departure as amicable. “We all have warm feelings for our colleagues at Frankfurt, Garbus, and we expect to continue working together,” said Schreck.
“After many years of wonderful relationships, we wish only great success to the new firm and our good friends,” said Michael Frankfurt.
The new firm, Schreck Rose & Dapello, is expected to open its doors in two weeks. Other clients include directors Bart Freundlich (“The Myth of Fingerprints”), Bronwen Hughes (“Harriet the Spy”), Nicholas Hytner (“The Madness of King George”), Des McAnuff (“Cousin Bette”) and Jesse Peretz (“First Love, Last Rites”).
The thesps on Schreck Rose & Dapello’s roster include Stephen Baldwin, Tom Berenger, Harry Connick Jr., Marcia Gay Harden, Kevin James, Natasha Lyonne, Julianne Moore, Alessandro Nivola, Natalie Portman and Kyra Sedgwick.
Additional clients include “Politically Incorrect” exec producer Scott Carter and writers Bentley Evans (“The Jamie Foxx Show”), Robert Freedman (“Cinderella”), Jason Katims (“Relativity”), Bill Masters (“Seinfeld”), Theresa Rebeck (“Harriet the Spy”) and Stephen Schwartz (“Godspell”).
Schreck has been a partner at Frankfurt, Garbus for more than a decade. Prior to joining the firm, he was director of business affairs for CBS/Fox Video. He began his legal career at the Washington, D.C., law firm Arnold & Porter after graduating from Columbia Law School.
Rose has been a Frankfurt, Garbus partner for three years. Prior to that, she was a partner for five years at the entertainment firm of Levine Thall Plotkin & Menin in New York. She received her J.D. from George Washington University.
A graduate of Harvard Law School, Dapello has been at Frankfurt, Garbus for nearly seven years. He began his legal career at Proskauer Rose in New York.
