Entertainment lawyer and former indie film exec Ezra Doner has joined Thelen Reid & Priest as a partner in the firm’s entertainment and media practice.
Doner, who reps a number of Hollywood film studios and TV companies, will be based in New York, but will divide his time between the firm’s New York and Los Angeles offices.
Doner comes to Thelen Reid & Priest from Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler, where he specialized in the production, finance and distribution of entertainment programs and literary properties.
Before returning to private law practice several years ago, Doner worked inhouse as an executive and lawyer with various film companies, including Miramax, Gladden and Paramount Pictures.
“Ezra brings invaluable experience and contacts to our securitization practice,” Michael Elkin, chairman of the firm’s entertainment and media practice group, said. “We have established ourselves as the brand name in entertainment asset securitization, and Ezra adds a depth that further separates us from other law firms.”
Securitizations are debt financing plans serviced by royalties from music, film, TV syndication and other intellectual property. The firm recently handled Iron Maiden’s $30 million bond offering, which was backed by future royalties from the heavy metal band’s hits.
According to Elkin, Thelen Reid has more than 30 such deals in the pipeline, valued at more than $1 billion.
