BERLIN — Amid concern over the spending policies of Germany’s entertainment companies, which have created a buzz on the stock exchange, third-quarter results issued the past week show that local players are on a roll.
Germany’s leading independent distributor, Kinowelt Medien, reported that revenues for the first nine months were up 65% to DM248.7 million ($133 million). Pre-tax results increased by 831% to $10 million while net profits were up 2.8% to $4.3 million.
Rival companies revealed similar results: Licensing company Splendid Medien saw revenues all but double to $17.8 million; operating results rose 245.9% to $4.2 million.
Production and licensing company Advanced Medien increased revenues by 921% to $18.2 million; operating results were up 1,368% to $13.9 million.
Swiss-German licensing/distribution company Highlight Communications saw revenues up by 252%.
Post-production house CineMedia, which is looking into licensing opportunities, saw revenues rise 294% to $46.9 million while operating results reached $7.5 million, up 38.2%.
