PARIS — The Reed Midem Organization, whose international trade shows include the Mip and Mipcom television markets, has appointed a new director of its television division.
Michael Weatherseed, 42, will take over from Rene Perez, who announced in May that he intended to resign at the end of the year in order to set up his own consulting firm.
British-born Weatherseed has been Europe managing director of Fortune magazine since September 1995 and was previously managing director and sales manager within the Reed Travel Group, which is owned by Reed Elsevier — which in turn owns Reed Midem and Daily Variety.
Weatherseed will be attending the upcoming Mipcom mart and will take over full responsibility for the TV division following Perez’s departure after Mip Asia in December.
He joins the company at a time when Reed Midem chairman Xavier Roy is making a major bid to integrate Internet business into the traditional TV markets. One key issue that Roy and his new television director must face is whether to continue with Mip Asia in 2000.
