Netter Digital Entertainment has tapped Jay Fukuto senior veep of animation.
Most recently senior VP of MGM’s animation division, Fukuto will now head up Netter’s team of 3-D animators and f/x artists. The company is producing kiddie 3-D animated series “Voltron: The Third Dimension” and sci-fi series “Babylon 5.”
Fukuto takes the animated reins just as Netter was experiencing some growing pains. TNT’s “Crusade,” produced by Netter in association with J. Michael Straczynski, was recently canceled after one season.
However, the company’s chairman and CEO Douglas Netter is confident that by “working with our existing team of skilled animators and creative artists, Jay will make a significant contribution to our growth and profitability … this is a significant step forward for Netter Digital.”
While at MGM, Fukuto oversaw the development of the studio’s animated and direct-to-video releases including “The Secret of NIMH II,” “An All Dogs Christmas Carol” and “Tom Sawyer.”
Previously, Fukuto worked as VP of current programming at Walt Disney Television Animation, supervising such series as “Disney’s Mighty Ducks,” “Jungle Cubs” and “The Lion King’s Timon and Pumbaa.”
