MTV has inked a five-year licensing deal with Simon & Schuster Interactive to create a series of vidgames based on the music cabler’s popular animated show “Daria” for both the PC and Playstation.
The first title, “Daria’s Sick, Sad Life Planner,” will ship in October for the PC platform and will feature a calendar, address book, journal, reminders, to-do lists, video and screensavers.
Title was written by “Daria” show writer Peter Elwell and developed by Hypnotix. It retails for $19.95.
“Daria” bowed on MTV in 1997 as a spinoff of “Beavis and Butt-Head.”
“Daria joins our growing list of Viacom-created brands that we’re leveraging into successful new media formats,” said Gilles Dana, senior veep and publisher of Simon & Schuster New Media. “We’re looking forward to bringing other MTV brands to the PC, Mac and Playstation formats next year.”
Details of other titles MTV plans to adapt were unavailable.
Both MTV and Simon & Schuster are divisions of Viacom.
