ABC vet Mitch Metcalf has been appointed senior veep of West Coast program research for NBC.

Metcalf will reunite at the Peacock with his former ABC boss, Alan Wurtzel, a 21-year Alphabet exec who jumped ship to NBC in May as prexy of research and media development, who now holds a similar post at NBC. Metcalf will relocate to Burbank from Gotham, while Wurtzel continues to be based in New York.

Metcalf, who will report to NBC West Coast prexy Scott Sassa, was most recently ABC’s senior veep of research.

“One of the best decisions I ever made at ABC was hiring Mitch in 1990. I am extremely pleased that he is able to join us,” said Wurtzel in announcing the hire with Sassa.

At ABC, Metcalf was responsible for program research, in-depth analysis of ABC series, pilots and longform programming. He also analyzed box office grosses for ABC in its evaluation of theatrical purchases.

Before joining ABC, Metcalf spent two years as a program researcher for Boston-based Research Communications. He began his career in 1987 as a research associate for Frank N. Magid Associates.
