Execs abuzz over TV promos

MIAMI — BDA’s Latin America confab wrapped its second installment Nov. 8-9 with positive buzz over the art of TV promotions.

Attendance jumped 50% over last year’s bow, and most of the 750 promotions, programming and post-production execs and creatives flew in from around Latin America.

Highlight was the keynote speech by Argentine ad exec Carlos Baccetti.

“He spoke for an hour and a half, and we had to reschedule a Q&A session for the afternoon,” said event chairman and Nick Latino general manager Stephen Grieder.

Participants praised the emphasis on the creative. “Promax Intl. is very computer, techie-oriented,” said an attendee from Mexico’s Televisa. “Promax Latin America is much more about the talent, the creative people, which has more to do with Latin culture.”

The two-day confab ended with awards in over 40 categories, presented by Emmy Award-winning Telemundo talk-show host Pedro Sevcec.

For a “bio” of SpaceGhost, Damon Pittman of Cartoon Network Latin America won Promax’s Rocket Award, for best work by a junior exec.
