Kahn & Jacobs shutters

Roster included Gotham film stalwarts

Gotham-based independent film praisery Kahn & Jacobs is closing its office, firm’s co-prexies Sharon Kahn and Susan Jacobs announced late Wednesday.

Founded in 1994, with the Independent Feature Project as its lone client, Kahn & Jacobs made its name as a top PR firm for indie film. Over the years, their clients have included Gotham film stalwarts Lions Gate, Zeitgeist, Samuel Goldwyn, New Yorker Films, HBO, the Shooting Gallery and filmmakers Paul Schrader and Melvin Van Peebles.

“This work has, in many ways, been a labor of love,” Kahn told Daily Variety. “Representing independent film is not the most lucrative business; the fees these companies can pay are not always competitive. But finances were not the main reason we decided to do this. We just both wanted to try something new.”

Kahn said that they decided to shutter the company now because it was before the start of the next fiscal year.

While the company will officially close it doors at the end of November, Kahn and Jacobs will rep the New York Film Critics Circle though January 2000, when the group holds its annual awards event.
