Indovision suing Star TV

Exex allege breach of contract in $60 mil suit

The spat between Asian satcaster Star TV and Indovision, its former partner in Indonesia, is turning nasty.

Indovision, the country’s only licensed direct-to-home operator, is suing Rupert Murdoch’s Star for $60 million, according to a report published Tuesday in the Indonesian newspaper Kompass.

The paper quoted Indovision execs as indicating they are taking legal action alleging Star breached its contract when it terminated its programming and management agreement with Indovision last month.

The former allies fell out over a number of issues, including Indovision’s reported failure to pay millions of dollars to Star; disagreements over management philosophies at the struggling DTH service, which has fewer than 40,000 subscribers; and Indovision’s switch to the Cakrawarta satellite owned by its parent, PT Datakom Asia.
