NEW YORK — Hearst Corp. has upped Debra Shriver to VP and chief communications officer. She will report to Frank Bennack Jr., president and CEO of Hearst.

In her new post, Shriver will be responsible for handling all communications including P.R., events and advertising. She will work closely with Cathleen P. Black, president of Hearst Magazines, to oversee marketing and business communications for the division’s publications.

“Deb’s three years with Hearst Magazines will give Hearst a great resource as we continue to expand in the areas of newspapers, broadcasting and cable, new media and the Internet, in addition to magazines,” Bennack said.

Shriver was previously senior VP of marketing and communications for Hearst Magazines. Before joining Hearst in 1996, she was senior VP of communications for the Newspaper Assn. of America, where she was part of the largest trade group representing the newspaper industry.

She was also director of communications for MCI Communications Corp. and a senior associate at Ogilvy & Mather.
