HBO veterans Nancy Geller and Anne Thomopoulos have been upped to senior veeps of original programming.
“Nancy and Anne have been instrumental in developing key programming franchises for HBO,” said Chris Albrecht, HBO’s prexy of original programming, in announcing the promotions.
Gotham-based Geller has been veep of original programming for the past five years, focusing on music and special events, as well as comedy programming from HBO Downtown Prods.
Among the high-profile projects she has supervised are concert specs with Garth Brooks, Jerry Seinfeld, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Bette Midler.
HBO Downtown’s roster includes “The Chris Rock Show,” Comedy Central’s “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist” and ABC’s “Politically Incorrect With Bill Maher.”
In Los Angeles, Thomopoulos has been programming veep since 1992. She was responsible for overseeing day-to-day production of the Emmy-winning “From the Earth to the Moon” miniseries and the gritty prison drama “Oz.”
Thomopoulos is now developing the 13-hour World War II mini “Band of Brothers,” to be produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks for telecast late next year or early 2001.
