Grey raps up Combs deal

Safran signs on as manager

Rapper and hip-hop entrepreneur Sean “Puffy” Combs has signed with Brillstein-Grey Enterprises, where he will be managed by company chairman and CEO Brad Grey and manager Peter Safran.

Combs, who continues to be repped by ICM, had been managed by Handprint Entertainment. Combs’ team of reps also includes music consultant Steve Lucas.

Combs has been ubiquitous and influential on the hip-hop scene as both an artist and producer. Early success producing such acts as Mary J. Blige and Jodeci led to the establishment of Bad Boy Entertainment, which championed the careers of such artists as Mase and the late Notorious B.I.G. (Biggie Smalls).

Combs’ entrepreneurial interests also include Notorious magazine, of which he is co-publisher; a clothing line; Bad Boy Management; Daddy’s House Social Programs; and Justin’s restaurants.

While he has flirted with several feature film opportunities, Combs has yet to translate his popularity in the music world to the big or small screens, something Brillstein-Grey will endeavor to accomplish while building up Combs’ existing businesses.
