The Canada-based cable webs Trio and Newsworld Intl. have signed affiliate deals with cabler MediaOne.
The deal will give the cable networks access to MediaOne’s 5 million subscribers. The companies did not disclose how many of MediaOne’s homes will actually receive the channels.
Trio offers dramas, documentaries and films from the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa.
Newsworld is a 24-hour news channel drawing on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.’s global newsgathering resources.
Trio and NWI are owned by North American Television, a joint venture of Power Broadcasting Inc. and the CBC.
MediaOne has agreed to be purchased by AT&T.

TORONTO — Isme Bennie, director of programming and acquisition for the Chum Limited specialty channel Space: The Imagination Station, has been appointed to the same position at another Chum Channel — Bravo! NewsStyleArtsChannel.
Effective immediately, Bennie is responsible for the scheduling and programming of both channels. Bennie acquired her experience in TV programming and the international marketplace over the last 25 years working in public TV in Canada and the U.S. and then setting up a distribution company that later became Paragon Intl. She has been with ChumCity Intl., Chum’s parent company, since 1995.

Lightship Entertainment, a new TV production company, says its projects will span cable, broadcast TV and Internet projects.
Taking harbor on the backlot of the Disney-MGM Studios in Florida, Lightship was formed by Andrew Perrott, exec producer of “Petsburgh USA” on the Animal Planet cabler.
Lightship is currently producing the Animal Planet series “Good Dog U.”
