Ups signal shift to Gotham

Vibe/Spin Ventures — home to urban music and hip hop magazines Blaze, Vibe and Spin — has announced several key promotions.

The moves are designed to shift concentration of day-to-day management responsibility from L.A.-based parent company Miller Publishing Group (where it has been since Vibe and Spin joined in 1997) to Gotham-based execs.

Group publisher John Rollins and general manager Anne Welch have been upped to VSV co-prexies while retaining their original duties. Raymond O’Neal Jr. will report to Rollins and Welch as Vibe/Spin exec VP, also staying on as publisher of Blaze.

Also, group circulation director Dana Sacher will fill the new position of VP, consumer marketing and financial planning. Director of business development Gary Lewis has been made VP, event marketing.

“John, Anne and Raymond will provide Vibe/Spin Ventures with experience, knowledge, and solid leadership,” said Miller Publishing Group prexy Robert L. Miller.

Rollins, who’s been with Vibe since 1993, will head advertising and marketing for all three titles. He worked in advertising at Spin prior to its acquisition by Vibe Ventures after cutting his teeth at Rolling Stone.

Welch will continue to oversee finance, production and technology, among other business affairs aspects. Before joining VSV in 1998, she spent 12 years as a general manager at Time Inc.

O’Neal will be charged with all three titles’ urban market development. He joined Vibe in 1995, where he’s worked since in various capacities.
