ABC Owned Television Stations has promoted David S. Converse to VP and director of engineering, announced O&O chairman Lawrence J. Pollock.

In his new post, Converse will oversee all engineering and technical issues for the net-owned stations.

Previously director of engineering for KABC, Converse will also develop broadcast technology and handle the stations’ transition to digital technology.

Converse first joined ABC Owned Television Stations in 1995. Prior to that, he was director of engineering at KFSN-TV.

CNET has tapped Richard J. Marino as its first prexy, while co-founder and chief operating officer Shelby Bonnie has been upped to vice chairman.

In his newly created position, Marino, former prexy and CEO of PC World Communications, will oversee CNET’s online publishing and TV units, as well as sales and marketing and human resources.

Marino became CEO of PC World in 1996, expanding PC World Communications, including PC World Online. Most recently, Marino was appointed exec VP to lead IDG’s new Global Solutions unit.

Marino has also worked for Ziff-Davis Publishing, where he headed up the sales staff for PC magazine, and for ABC/Cap Cities Publishing Corp. where he served as senior veep of advertising and marketing.

Scott Martin has been upped to senior VP of intellectual property and associate general counsel for Paramount Pictures.

Martin will be responsible for all intellectual property matters for the studio, including clearance, protection, enforcement and legislative issues. He reports to Rebecca Prentice, senior VP and general counsel.

Martin joined Paramount in 1992 as a senior attorney for the Motion Picture Group. Before that, he was an attorney with the intellectual property-entertainment law group of Richards & O’Neil in New York. He has also served in a similar capacity at Zavin, Sinnreich & Wasserman, beginning in 1986.

York Entertainment, has upped Steve Bulzoni from VP, sales to veep of home vid and Pamela White from director of marketing to VP of operations.

Bulzoni will now helm York’s newly created DVD unit, in addition to overseeing the company’s existing rental and sell-through divisions. Prior to York, Bulzoni was nat’l director of sales for BMG home vid.

White will supervise the quality control and manufacturing of rental, sell-through and DVD titles. Before York, White worked at Celebrity Home Entertainment.

In other moves, Richard Mendelsohn has been tapped VP, distribution sales. Previously national field sales manager for PM Entertainment Mendelsohn will helm distribution sales for York.

Additionally, Simon Walshaw has been named financial controller for the company. Walshaw was previously VP and chief financial officer for Rigel Independent Distribution & Entertainment Ltd.
