Rick Rodriguez, a well-known programming exec in Latin America, has been tapped senior VP programming and production for Discovery Networks Intl.
Based at corporate headquarters in Bethesda, Md., he will oversee all programming, production, development and on-air promotions for the company’s international networks. Rodriguez will report to Dawn McCall, who was recently named president of Discovery Networks.
Under Rodriguez’s direction the programming unit will serve to link the programming groups located throughout the world with the Discovery Communications production machine for Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel and Discovery’s digital networks.
Reporting directly to Rodriguez will be DNI veterans Chris Haws, overseeing production and development of original programming, and Rex Recka, with responsibility for scheduling and acquisitions.
Among the priorities Rodriguez cites for Discovery Networks Intl. are the development of a broad, consistent bouquet of TV brands across its various territories, development of production and development expertise at the regional level and expansion of Discovery’s international web presence.
“My experience in Latin America has taught me that with subtle enhancements, original global programming can be tailored to truly resonate with local audiences,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez joined Discovery in Latin America in 1994 and most recently served as VP and head of programming.
