Richard Cormier has joined Santa Monica-based post-production shop Riot as managing director. He replaces Michael Taylor, who recently ankled to serve as veep of f/x house Digital Domain’s digital studio group.

Cormier is founder of Montreal-based broadband services provider Jazz Media Network.

Cormier will oversee all daily operations and formulate strategic plans for Riot, which provides post work for film and television.

“Richard has been a leader in the Montreal post community for years,” said Larry Chernoff, prexy of the Encore Group, the Four Media division whose companies include Riot, Encore/ Hollywood, 4MC Burbank and Video Symphony.

“He brings a multifaceted background to Riot as a former editor and through his business ventures, most notably the visionary company Jazz.”

Cormier is also founder and former prexy of Buzz Image Group, Montreal, a 3D animation and f/x studio. He also founded Buzz, Santa Monica, in 1996, now operating as POP Animation.

“Managing a facility is a huge challenge, a nice puzzle, and I am excited to have the opportunity to take Riot to the next level,” Cormier said.
