MONTREAL — Alliance Atlantis Communications has inked an output deal with Spain’s Gestevision Telecinco that gives the latter TV and homevideo rights in Spain to 31 telepics produced or co-produced by Alliance Atlantis.

Telecinco has already committed to six movies produced by the Canadian company and will select an additional 25 over the next couple of years. Telepics already acquired by Telecinco include “Emma’s Wish,” “Beauty,” “Scandalous Me: The Jacqueline Susann Story,” “At the End of the Day,” “In the Blue Ground” and “Hard Times: The David Milgaard Story.”

The Telecinco deal follows closely on the heels of a similar output deal for TV movies that Alliance Atlantis signed two weeks ago with Italy’s Eagle Pictures. Ted Riley, prexy of Alliance Atlantis Television Distribution, said his company plans to set up other such arrangements around the globe.

“These two deals are part of a strategy where we’re trying to find more long-term partners,” said Riley. “If we’re going to be a volume player, then we have to have these kinds of output deals. They are the building blocks toward getting more financing stability for the projects.”

Aldo Spagnoli, managing director of acquisitions and co-productions at Gestevision Telecinco, said, “We are pleased to build a strong partnership that we can build beyond sales into co-productions and other forms of co-ventures.”
