GOOD MORNING: With the trial and sentence (life in prison without parole) of Ennis Cosby’s killer, Mikail Markhasev, now completed, Bill Cosby resumed production this week on the third season of CBS’ “Cosby.” To help lighten the emotional load, Cos has Sinbad joining in the first seg, guestarring as the father of 11-year-old Jurnee Smollett (“Eve’s Bayou”), who will be a series regular. It’s nostalgia time for the two men — Cosby gave Sinbad a big break in “A Different World” … When Swoosie Kurtz was told she’d have a bathtub scene in WB’s “The White River Kid,” she thought, “Maybe it will be with Antonio Banderas!” They do get to hold hands — “But we’re praying,” she laughs. Kurtz, who is Emmy-nominated for her guestarring role in “ER,” says she was paged for a series of her own, but “I’m having too much fun” in features such as the recent “Outside Ozonoa” and “Cruel Inventions” pre-“White River Kid,” in which she plays Southern “white trash” — “a la Tammy Faye Bakker.” Arnold Glimcher directs and is one of the producers (along with Banderas). Kurtz says “This picture has been Arne’s passion for seven years. He is a filmmaker who is not interested about the grosses — God bless him — he has such an artistic approach” — and he is president of PaceWildenstein Galleries. The pic also stars “Maximum Bob’s” Beau Bridges (with whom Kurtz co-starred in “The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom”), Bob Hoskins, Wes Bentley, Ellen Barkin, Randy Travis and Kim Dickens. They’re filming in Hot Springs, Ark., where the mercury’s at 114, she said, “with a wind chill factor of 110!”
MONOGAMY IS ONE OF THE BURNING issues today,” reminded Annie Potts on the set of “Any Day Now,” shooting in downtown L.A. And that’s the subject of this seg in the one-hour series, Lifetime’s first foray into dramatic episodic TV, which bows Tuesday. Potts admitted, “I’d sworn I’d never do it again (an hourlong dramatic series) but this one’s unique in that I’m in it only half of the time”; the other half is flashbacked to her character’s life in the ’60s in the civil rights movement in Birmingham. Lorraine Toussaint shares a lifetime friendship with Potts from those days to the present, with younger players in the early days. Potts observes that the series “provides a wonderful framework for where we (and the country) have been and what we’ve come to. I fell in love with those issues when I did ‘Dangerous Minds.’ This (series) is not just a story of race, but of friendships” … King World, a hefty supporter of the (BevHills branch of) Museum of Television & Radio, is underwriting an evening of tribute devoted to Barbra Streisand’s career on the small screen. King World will be co-producing Streisand’s BarWood banner’s TV productions, “Hopefully two a year,” said Michael King, whose company also starts “banking” “Roseanne” shows for the fall, taping sessions starting Friday … Robert Forster has roles in two remakes of Alfred Hitchcock movies. in “Psycho,” he plays Norman Bates’ psychiatrist, and in “Rear Window,” he plays the detective, joining Christopher Reeve and Daryl Hannah in the Hallmark-ABC’er … Jim Be-lushi, who kicks off a cross-country tour with his soulful-blues Sacred Hearts Band, Saturday at the Rio in Las Vegas, will be joined by Jenny Sloan, his wife of three months who will dance with the group. Their new CD (House of Blues) is titled “36x22x36.” Anyone we know? Belushi returns to acting for Joel Silver-Dick Donner’s banner in “Made Man” as a witness protection program principal escaping the Mafia from whom he stole $12 million. “It’s an action movie, plenty of action,” Belushi laughs.
HOLLYWOOD BLVD. AND SYCAMORE is the closed-down site, Friday when Everything films its video of “Hooch,” last week’s most-added single to Top 40 radio stations. The video will be a tribute to Sidney Lumet’s “Dog Day Afternoon” and films at the old bank building at 7060 Hollywood Blvd. Chris Applebaum directs … Nancy Sinatra Jr.’s appearance at the House of Blues Monday, along with the Temptations, is also the World Polo Championships Finals kickoff to benefit the Heart of a Child Foundation. The polo matches take place Aug. 21-30 in Santa Barbara … Add sports notes: celebs matching basketball talent with professional players at the Hard Rock Hotel’s first Hoops in Vegas tourney Sunday and Monday: Donny Osmond, David Alan Grier, Tom Arnold, Chris Kattan, Steve Harris, Tommy Chong, Corbin Bernsen and Jay Mohr — plus Jenny McCarthy, Amanda Pays and Angie Everhart. It benefits ERAS, the Educational & Resource and Service Center of Culver City … Among auction items at the Carousel of Hope ball, Oct. 23 at the BevHilton, 20th Century Fox is offering tix to the 1999 Miami Super Bowl — and passes to all Fox preems in the year.
