Film co. gets 'Last Don II', 'Mr. Murder'

Trimark has picked up U.S. homevideo rights to two miniseries based on books by bestselling authors, Mario Puzo’s “The Last Don II” and Dean Koontz’s “Mr. Murder.”

“The Last Don II,” which continues the saga of Don Dominico Clericuzio, stars Danny Aiello and Kirstie Alley. It premiers on CBS in May and hits videostores later this year.

The original “The Last Don,” also distributed on video by Trimark, was the second-highest rated miniseries of the 1996-97 season, averaging a 15.9 rating/25 share. The video version sold slightly more than 40,000 units, according to the company.

“Mr. Murder” stars Stephen Baldwin as a successful writer whose domestic bliss is shattered when his serial-killing twin brother tries to assume his identity.
