Look for NBC affiliates to kick up a fuss about DirecTV’s pay-per-view offering of the Peacock web soap “Days of Our Lives” when the web begins its three-day spring affiliates confab today at the Century Plaza Hotel.

To NBC’s chagrin, “Days” producer Columbia TriStar TV struck a deal with the nation’s leading satcaster earlier this month to offer same-day PPV telecasts of the popular serial. NBC didn’t have any say in the deal between DirecTV and Col TriStar, but sources say some affils feel the network should have somehow adopted a tougher stance, given the importance of program exclusivity to network-affiliated broadcasters.

DirecTV began offering the PPV “Days” telecasts for $1.49 (or $9.99 per month) Monday.

All in all, this week’s NBC powwow could be one of the more raucous closed-door affiliate confabs in recent memory. NBC affils are buzzing about the network’s ground-breaking, and some say troubling, plan to phase out the decades-old system of affiliate compensation over the next 10 years.
