MIAMI — Luis Peraza, one of the founding execs at Latin America’s largest cable programmer, HBOle Partners, has ankled for the Cisneros TV Group.
Peraza became senior VP of programming and production at Miami-based CTG this week, with a mandate from topper Carlos Cisneros to develop an original-programming division to support the cabler’s nine Latino channels.
Peraza was formerly senior veepee of acquisitions for HBOle, a company he helped start up in the early 1990s under the auspices of Warner Bros. and Venezuela’s Omnivision.
The new post marks a return to production for Peraza, who in the 1980s produced telenovelas for Venezuela’s RCTV, including the international hit “Abigail.”
“The Latin market is now saturated with channels. The next wave is going to be original productions, as it’s going to be more and more important for channels to differentiate themselves,” Peraza told Daily Variety.
“We’re very open to hearing from the creative community in Latin America. We’re receptive to all genres, from feature films to TV series,” Peraza said.
He admitted he has some pet projects in mind, but said his first priority is to develop a master plan for original production at CTG and hire staff accordingly.
