White, Lander have the Spirit

City of Hope selects two for prestigious award

The City of Hope Music and Entertainment Industry chapter has selected journalist Timothy White and publishing exec Howard Lander to receive the org’s prestigious Spirit of Life award.

The nod, which will be given out at a black-tie dinner gala set for this fall, is presented to industry leaders in recognition of an individual’s personal and professional achievements.

White is an author and editor-in-chief of music trade publication Billboard. Lander is prexy of the Billboard Music Group and exec veep of BPI Communications, the trade magazine’s parent.

Proceeds from the event benefit the City of Hope and its Beckman Research Institute, which work to find cures for cancer, AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses.

Through its Spirit of Life dinner and related fundraising efforts, the music and entertainment industry arm has raised more than $35 million for the charity over the past 20 years.
