Primetime sudser “Melrose Place” celebrated its 200th episode Sept. 9 at L.A. eatery Alto Palato. The evening had a celebratory and jovial mood with cast members mingling comfortably with guests.
The cast gathered around a huge cake to kick off the festivities. Fox Entertainment prexy Peter Roth introduced exec producer Aaron Spelling, calling the TV legend “his dear friend and mentor.”
“MP’s” Thomas Calabro provided the evening’s comic relief by getting a faceful of cake. For those without such a sweet tooth, a buffet of pasta, chicken and salad was provided.
Post-event, Spelling called himself the “luckiest man in the world” and said celebrating “MP’s” 200th feels “like winning the World Series.” Doing as many as 34 episodes a season, the show will hit 227 by season’s end. Spelling says he cannot choose a favorite character, though he has an admitted soft spot for Heather Locklear, who has brought him luck three times over with her roles in “TJ Hooker,” “Dynasty” and “Melrose Place.” “Whenever you put her on a show, it works.”
The 200th episode airs Sept. 14 on Fox.
So what will the seventh season bring? When asked what is in store for his character this year, returning cast member Jack Wagner (Dr. Peter Burns) deadpanned, “a brunette.” And what about Locklear’s Amanda Woodward?
“Bigger, better, more.”
