‘Emperor’s’ new voices

Classic tale retold on CD by celebs

Harcourt Brace and The Starbright Foundation have teamed to publish an all-star retelling of “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.

The tale is rewritten and retold on CD by numerous celebrities, including Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, Madonna, Penny Marshall, Rosie O’Donnell, Fran Drescher, John Lithgow, Robin Williams and Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf.

Celebrities read their respective chapters and are accompanied by an original score. The CD, which was produced and directed by Andre Mika, also features some material not found in the accompanying hardcover book. The book is highlighted by colorful renditions by some of the world’s most noted illustrators, including Quentin Blake, Maurice Sendak, Steven Kellogg and William Joyce.

Proceeds from the book and CD sales benefit The Starbright Foundation, which creates programs that help seriously ill children. Steven Spielberg, who helped spearhead the project, chairs Starbright.
