The Shooting Gallery’s docu “Free Tibet,” which chronicles the 1996 San Francisco Tibetan Freedom Concert, preemed Sept. 9 in Hollywood.
The feature docu, which opened Sept. 4 in Gotham and will open Sept. 18 in L.A., interweaves footage of the rock event with an exploration of the current state of Tibetan Buddhism.
Pic’s profits will be donated to the Milarepa Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting nonviolence that was co-founded by the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch, who also exec produced the pic and founded the now-annual Tibetan Freedom Concerts.
The fete following the screening was at the Culver City, Calif., photo studio Smashbox. Seen celebrating the docu’s release were Steven Seagal, all three Beastie Boys — Adam Horovitz, Mike D and Yauch — Winona Ryder, Motley Crue rocker Tommy Lee and Lauren Holly.
