Biz bidding to help AIDS charity

Prizes include cash, computer, DVD player

A framed one-sheet from “Titanic” signed by Leonardo DiCaprio and a “Truman” poster autographed by Jim Carrey will be among the items on the block at the Video Industry AIDS Action Committee’s “Not So Silent” Auction and Red Ribbon Raffle.

The fundraising event also will boast for the first time a $5,000 grand prize giveaway and prizes that include a laptop computer, a DVD player and a ski weekend in Utah to attendees at the upcoming Video Software Dealers Assn. confab.

The annual gathering of vidindustry execs and retailers is set for July 8-12 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The VIACC annual auction will also sport an autographed bowling ball and pins from “The Big Lebowski” co-producers Joel & Ethan Cohen among its 50 framed posters and more than 70 sports and entertainment related memorabilia items.

The auction will be held July 10 at the VIACC booth on the VSDA convention floor, while raffle tickets can be purchased at the booth until the close of the tradeshow on July 11.

Numerous scripts autographed by the stars of films such as “A League of Their Own” and “The Birth” script from the NBC series “Mad About You,” will also be auctioned to the highest bidder.

VIACC, a volunteer effort led and staffed by vidindustry execs, provides funding to various AIDS healthcare organizations to which it distributes 97% of the coin raised.
