Lowell Staine, a longtime member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., died Feb. 16 in Los Angeles following a short illness. He was 60.
A native of Belize, he moved to California in the mid-1960s to serve as a correspondent for several publications headquartered in British Columbia and Guyana.
Staine served as a member of the board of directors for the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. for several years and in 1991 was elected executive secretary, a position he held until his death.
Staine also served as the Foreign Film Commissioner of Belize, focusing on improving the cultural ties between the United States and Belize.
He is survived by a sister.
