Grammy-winner Mariah Carey has left CAA and has signed with the William Morris Agency, where she will be repped by a team of agents in all areas.
The move comes just as Carey has started to break into the acting arena. The platinum-selling singer reportedly wants to focus on a film career and recently signed to appear opposite Chris Tucker in the spy spoof “00 Soul” at Universal Pictures.
Her fame to date, however, has come from her pipes. Carey’s eight-year recording career has spawned six albums — including her eponymous debut that sold more than 12 million copies worldwide — and an “MTV Unplugged” album. Combined, her albums have sold more than 80 million copies, and her latest, “Butterfly,” has been on the charts for 40 weeks and has sold 8 million copies worldwide.
On the other hand, Carey does not tour as often as other acts of her widespread appeal — a factor that limits the commissions an agency can earn from the singing sensation.
