CANNES — Yvan Attal, Dervla Kirwan and Christopher Eccleston have signed to star in Michael Winterbottom’s Irish romantic comedy “Old New Borrowed Blue.”

The pic, which starts shooting June 22, is produced by Winterbottom’s regular partner Andrew Eaton, and is being fully financed by Film Four.

It’s the story of a young woman (Kirwan) on the verge of getting married, and the romantic complications that ensue when her old French penpal (Attal), whom she never previously met, suddenly appears. Eccleston plays her fiance.

Attal’s credits include “Love etc.” and “Portraits Chinois.” Eccleston starred in Winterbottom’s “Jude,” as well the upcoming “Heart” and “Elizabeth.” Kirwan is a British TV stalwart appearing in her first major movie role.

Winterbottom is a member of this year’s Cannes jury.
