Willem Dafoe, in Cannes to help pitch “Lulu on the Bridge,” says he’s setting up “Continental Drift” to produce and topline, with Agnieszka Holland attached to helm.
Pic, based on Russell Banks’ dark novel of the same name, is looking for financing. Dafoe, Banks and Linda Reisman will produce.
Story is about a blue collar guy who moves to Florida to try and change his life. He crosses paths with a Haitian woman and her brother who end up in Florida at the same time.
The pic will rep one of the first for Dafoe as producer. He’s also involved with his New York-based Wooster Group theater company in producing several projects, including “Wrong Guys,” based on a novel.
As an actor, Dafoe has appeared in such feature pics as “Speed 2: Cruise Control,” “Last Temptation of Christ,” “To Live and Die in L.A.” and “Platoon.”
Holland’s directing credits include “Secret Garden” and “Europa, Europa.”
