JoAnne Akalaitis’ acclaimed production of Euripides’ “The Iphigenia Cycle” will come to Off Broadway’s Theater for a New Audience in January.
The single-evening production of “Iphigenia at Aulis” and “Iphigenia in Tauris,” in translations by Nicholas Rudall, will also reunite the original designers and composers and most of the original ensemble from the production that premiered at Chicago’s Court Theater in 1997.
The production will be a collaboration between the Court Theater and Theater for a New Audience, and will be part of the latter’s 20th anniversary season. The announcement was made jointly by Theater for a New Audience artistic director Jeffrey Horowitz and Court’s a.d. Charles Newell.
Akalaitis, co-founder and co-artistic director of the Mabou Mines theater troupe, is the recipient of five Obie awards, a Drama Desk nod, the NEA award for sustained artistic achievement and a Guggenheim fellowship.
