B’way TV bound in ‘Live’

Pilot cleared in 70% of TV homes

NEW YORK — Broadway is testing the waters for a national weekly newsmagazine of its own.

A pilot show, entitled “Live Broadway, USA,” has been cleared in 70% of the nation’s TV homes, largely through deals with network-owned TV stations. In Gotham, the hourlong news mag will run at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31, on CBS O&O WCBS. The “Live Broadway, USA” pilot is being produced jointly by the League of American Theaters & Producers and the New Jersey-based Phoenix Communications Group.

“Our hope is that this special will lead to a weekly Broadway news program,” said Jed Bernstein, executive director of the league.

“Live Broadway, USA” also has been cleared on a variety of CBS, ABC and NBC stations in L.A., San Francisco, Boston, Washington, Dallas, Detroit and Atlanta, said a spokeswoman for the league, and will air from May 20 to June 7.

The “Live” pilot will be hosted by former “CBS Morning News” anchor and “48 Hours” correspondent Faith Daniels. The show will provide a wrap-up of the Broadway theater season, and will consist of highlights, interviews and features about Broad-way and national touring productions.
