‘Shattered’ rights go to Lions Gate

Company to handle North American distrib

Lions Gate Films has acquired North American rights to Raul Ruiz’s thriller “Shattered Image,” which stars William Baldwin and Anne Parillaud.

Pic, which is being presented by Peter Hoffman and produced by Lloyd Silverman and Barbet Schroeder, is due to have its world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival (Aug. 26-Sept. 8). Lions Gate, sources said, plans to release the film in the U.S. shortly after.

“Image” is about a woman (Parillaud) who finds that her two separate lives — that of a honeymooner in the Bahamas and an assassin in Seattle — begin to merge together.

Chilean-born Ruiz’s credits include “Three Lives and Only One Death,” “Dark at Noon” and “Treasure Island.” “Image” is his first American-financed, English-language pic.

Mark Damon’s MDP Worldwide is handling foreign distribution on the film. Seven Arts Pictures’ Hoffman arranged financing for the pic.

Baldwin stars with Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland in the sci-fi actioner “Virus,” which Universal Pictures is releasing Aug. 14.
