Submission deadlines for the Heart of Film screenplay competition close May 15. The fifth annual juried event awards a $3,500 cash prize for feature adult and family scripts.
Past finalists have included “Excess Baggage,” produced by and starring Alicia Silverstone; and “Goodbye, Lover,” a Cannes selection starring Don Johnson, Ellen DeGeneres and Dermot Mulroney, scheduled for a September release by Warner Bros.
Established by the Austin Film Festival, the competition dovetails into its Film Screenwriters Conference Oct. 1-4.
The festival has carved out a unique niche with its focus on film scripters. Last year’s screenplay competition attracted roughly 3,200 submissions. For more information and an application call (800) 310-FEST.
