Zaentz, Van Sant among featured speakers

The Portland, Ore., Creative Conference will return for its ninth year Sept. 17-19, with speakers such as Oscar-winning “English Patient” producer Saul Zaentz and “Good Will Hunting” director Gus Van Sant among those featured at the event’s annual exploration of creativity in film, television, advertising, music and new media industries.

Other speakers confirmed so far for this year’s conference include Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Rob Legato and performance artist Denny Dent. All participants will discuss ideas about their work in various fields of composing, cinematography, editing, acting and multimedia.

The conference, to be held at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, in Portland, Ore., will include speaker presentations, sneak preview film screenings and parties. Some past Portland Creative Conference speakers have been filmmakers Spike Lee and Wes Craven, and cartoonists Gary Larson and Matt Groening.

“The conference has been referred to as an inspiration-fest,” said Will Vinton, Creative Conference chairman, and principal of Will Vinton Studios. “Each year our eclectic group of speakers has fulfilled the promise to entertain, inspire and enlighten with presentations that are as spontaneous as the creative process itself.”

As in previous years, the Creative Conference will award a limited number of scholarships for the student and artistic com-munity. Applications are available through the Creative Conference office and must be received by Friday.
