Myriad Pictures has acquired North American rights to the German comedy “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” starring Til Schweiger.
Pic, directed by Thomas Jahn, is the story of two men diagnosed with terminal cancer who steal a Mercedes full of stolen money and embark on a road adventure.
Pic was the No. 1 domestic release in Germany last year, grossing more than $25 million and putting both Jahn and Schweiger on the international map.
Myriad plans to roll out the pic in major U.S. markets later this year. In Canada, Myriad will work with Red Sky Entertainment on the release.
Schweiger’s outfit, Mr. Brown Entertainment, produced “Knockin,’ ” which co-starred Jan Josef Liefers. Buena Vista Intl. distributed the film in Germany.
Schweiger’s English-language pics include Antoine Fuqua’s “The Replacement Killers” and James Merendino’s “SLC Punk.”
He next appears in Bandeira Entertainment’s crime drama “The Judas Kiss,” opposite Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman.
Former Samuel Goldwyn and Village Roadshow exec Kirk D’Amico is reinvigorating his Myriad banner following his move into a consulting position at VR earlier this year.
The company, which D’Amico founded in 1993, also is handling international sales outside continental Europe on the miniseries “The Seventh Scroll.”
