Milton Moritz has been named president and CEO of the National Assn. of Theater Owners of California/Nevada, effective June 15, announced Phil Harris, chairman of the board of NATO of California/Nevada. Moritz also will serve as general chairman of NATO/ShoWest.
Harris cited Moritz’s background in exhibition and distribution as ideal experience for producing a convention as large as ShoWest.
Moritz started his career in the film business owning and operating theaters. He later joined American Intl. Pictures, where he rose to senior VP, worldwide marketing. Eventually he returned to exhibition as VP of advertising and publicity for Pacific Theaters and, most recently, headed his own marketing consulting firm geared toward servicing entertainment-related organizations.
Moritz has been president of Variety Children Charities of Southern California and is a member of the public relations branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The ShoWest convention is a joint effort of NATO and NATO of California/Nevada and has become one of the largest gatherings of theatrical exhibitors and motion picture distributors in the world. The 1999 convention will mark the event’s 25th anniversary.
