NEW YORK — Miramax Films has acquired North American rights to “Ordinary Decent Criminal” from Icon Entertainment Intl.
Pic, which begins lensing Tuesday in Ireland, stars Kevin Spacey and Linda Fiorentino. Thaddeus O’Sullivan will direct from the screenplay written by Gerard Stembridge.
Jonathan Cavendish and James Mitchell’s Little Bird is producing “Criminal” in association with Spacey’s Trigger Street Prods. Pic is being financed by Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey’s Icon, the Greenlight Fund, the Irish Film Board and the NRW Film Fund.
The deal marks the third collaboration between Miramax and Icon. Miramax picked up rights to Icon’s “An Ideal Husband” starring Cate Blanchett, Minnie Driver, Rupert Everett, Julianne Moore and Jeremy Northam in May. Previously, the studio acquired “All For Love,” a romantic comedy starring Jean Marc Barr, Miranda Richardson and Richard E. Grant.
The “Criminal” deal was negotiated on behalf of Miramax by Jason Blum, senior vice president of acquisitions and co-productions, and Andrew Herwitz, senior vice president for acquisitions and business affairs. Ralph Kamp, Icon Entertainment Intl. chief executive, repped that company.
