Langella joins cast of Polanski’s ‘Gate’

Legit thesp joins Depp, Olin in supernatural thriller

Frank Langella has joined Johnny Depp and Lena Olin in Artisan Entertainment’s “The Ninth Gate.” The Roman Polanski-helmed thriller begins shooting in Paris on June 8.

Langella will play a rare-book dealer who hires Depp to search for a missing Satanic volume he needs to complete his collection.

The filmmakers are still looking for a young French actress to play the role of an elusive figure who may or may not be a supernatural being.

“Ninth” is based on Arturo Perez-Reverte’s 1997 novel “The Club Dumas.” Polanski, who wrote the screenplay with John Brownjohn and Enrique Urbizu, is producing along with Inaki Nunez and Alain Vannier.

Langella is an acclaimed legit thesp who won a Tony Award for Edward Albee’s “Seascape” and gained national prominence for his role in the Broadway production of “Dracula.” He has appeared recently in such features as “Dave,” “Eddie” and Adrian Lyne’s “Lolita.”

Langella was repped in the deal by the William Morris Agency’s Jane Rosenberg and Michael Dowling.
