Johnson nabs hip-hop spec

'Seven Days' fetches low six figures from Fox, MJE

Earvin (Magic) Johnson’s film and TV development company, which currently has a two-year, first-look deal at Fox, has netted a feature spec with the studio’s purchase of “Seven Days,” a romantic comedy-drama set in the world of hip-hop music.

Script by first-time writer Mike Elliot sold in a low six-figure deal.

Charles Murray, creative exec at Magic Johnson Entertainment, said the pic is about a record producer who marries a high-society lady, but later realizes he’s really in love with his best friend, a woman who writes for a hip-hop music magazine.

Johnson will exec produce. MJE’s senior vice prexy, Tamara Gregory will co-produce. Elliot was repped in the script deal by his manager Warren Zide and attorney Matt Johnson.
