With its tongue firmly in its cheek, Dimension Films has optioned the comedic spec “Scream if You Know What I Did Last Summer,” from spoof writers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.
There appears to be no genre escaping the clutches of the Miramax Films subdivision. Pic will be a send-up of horror franchises such as “Halloween,” “Friday the 13th,” “Nightmare on Elm St.” and Dimension’s very own “Scream.”
As recently as this summer, Dimension revitalized the “Halloween” brand with the release of “Halloween: H20.”
“This is a hilarious script,” endorsed Dimension topper Bob Weinstein. “We’re putting it on the fast track to production for theatrical release sometime next year.”
The writers developed the idea and took it to Peter Safran, their manager at Brillstein-Grey Entertainment, who then approached Dimension.
Peter Schwerin, Dimension director of production and development, will oversee the project for the studio.
Friedberg and Seltzer previously wrote the Leslie Nielsen starrer “Spy Hard.”
Dimension prexy Cary Granat and Brian Burkin, Miramax VP for business and legal affairs, negotiated for Dimension. Safran repped the writers.
