After a multimillion-dollar PR countdown, “Armageddon” blasted off Monday night with a splashy world preem at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Touchstone Pictures transformed the space base into a screening room/concert venue, honoring its annual tradition of expensive and attention-grabbing launches tied to the pics’ locale and theme (e.g., “The Rock” on Alcatraz, “Con Air” in Vegas).
Rock-it-men of Aerosmith, which provides several songs for the film’s soundtrack, offered a musical space jam for preemgoers. Keeping it all in the family, the group is fronted by Steve Tyler, proud papa of the film’s femme lead, Liv Tyler.
Though it was announced in advance that Bruce Willis would not be attending, he was front and center with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and his fellow castmates including Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affleck, Steve Buscemi and Tyler.
For those who have been in solitary confinement and were unaware, the film opens Wednesday.
