Franklin wins ‘Trust’ of UA

Studio inks six-figure deal for high-tech thriller

United Artists has purchased an original pitch from writer/director Howard Franklin titled “Anti-Trust,” a paranoid thriller set amid the high-tech corporate world of Silicon Valley. The deal was in the high six figures.

Nick Wechsler and Julia Chasman of Industry Entertainment (formerly Addis/Wechsler) will produce. Industry recently inked a three-year, first-look deal with New Line Cinema/Fine Line Features.

Franklin has collaborated on several projects with actor Bill Murray: as a writer on comedy pic “The Man Who Knew Too Little,” and as writer and co-directer on UA’s “Larger Than Life” and “Quick Change.” He scripted and directed “The Public Eye, and penned the romantic thriller “Someone to Watch Over Me” and co-wrote “The Name of the Rose.”

Wechsler’s producing credits include “Eve’s Bayou,” “Love Jones,” “The Player” and the forthcoming Claire Danes-starrer “Polish Wedding” and “The Yards.”

Chasman, also a producer on “Polish Wedding” and “Love Jones,” produced “Shag” and exec produced “The Perez Family.”

Franklin is repped by his agents at International Creative Management.
